For one of our clients, one of the ongoing consequences of her rape was that she found that after going through this ordeal, she would react in unexpected ways in certain situations, and would find that many everyday activities would worry her. She discovered that by having a card outlining her position, which she could give to strangers/professionals, explaining the reasons for her reacting a certain way, rather than having to explain verbally was easier and less traumatic for her.
She has found it useful for things like medical appointments/checkups where she may need to take her clothes off, which is difficult for her. By handing the nurse or doctor the card, they are more understanding and more sensitive, thus making it easier for her. You may find it useful to show to your dentist, or a teacher or all sorts of other situations that you can find triggering or that make you feel vulnerable.
You may not want to keep retelling your story and, like this lady, you may find it easier to hand over a card to explain your situation, so that professionals or friends/colleagues can have more of an understanding.
