She had a word for me…
“God sees your shining heart”
Very nice,
Very affirming,
Very sanitised.
But did You see my
Bloodied heart?
My cringing, fearful
Muddied heart?
Ground into the dirt, a
Weeping heart?
A shame-filled, raw and
Raging heart?
You saw,
You heard
You watched …
…You wept.
And for each bruising, piercing word
Each smirking, stripping stare
Each hungry humiliation
Another hammer blow
Drove in the nails.
While water and blood
Flowing from your broken heart
Can wash mine clean.
The diamond-facet scars…
… shining.
