Under 18's

One in five children experiences sexual abuse before they are 18. That’s a horrible statistic and one that we would love to change.

This section is full of information for young people who might need help or advice for themselves or for a friend.

The stats

This is one of those things that we think is nothing to do with us – that we hope is nothing to do with us. But unfortunately it is often closer to us than we think:

NSPCC research shows that:

4% of children are sexually abused by a relative

11% of children are sexually abused by someone else that they know

5% of children are sexually abused by someone who was a stranger to them

That means 1 in 5 children are sexually abused.  At Lifecentre we would like to do something to stop that and to help those people who have been hurt already.

talk

A quarter of children who have been abused are too afraid to tell someone what is happening to them.

If you would like to talk to someone about something that is happening to you or you are worried about a friend contact us:
